Concave mirror perforated in the centre with handle (from Adam Politzer 1883 "Diseases of the ear").

Concave mirror perforated in the centre with handle (from Adam Politzer 1883 "Diseases of the ear").

Description : There were also models of mirrors attached to spectacles, as well as mirrors which were hand‑held, models which were an integral part of the artificial light and mirrors which were carefully held in the teeth.

The key improvement that this produced was to allow the observer to look down the centre of the beam of light, thereby eliminating head shadow and parallax.
