||The audioscope (Welch Allyn) is an otoscope which has fibreoptic illumination, and which incorporates a screening audiometer.
The audiometer produces pure tones at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz with an intensity of 25 dB.
For audiometric screening, special tips (audio tip; Welch Allyn) must be used in order to ensure that the intensity of the tone generated is accurate.
For better visualization of the tympanic membrane the examiner may wish to use a speculum with a larger central bore.
