The Cartilaginous External Auditory Canal

The Cartilaginous External Auditory Canal

Description : The superficial or outer third of the canal (cartilaginous external auditory canal) is surrounded by cartilage and runs backwards and upwards.

The skin lining the outer cartilaginous canal is relatively thick, containing hairs and both sebaceous and modified apocrine (ceruminous) glands.

The underlying cartilaginous framework allows the outer cartilaginous canal a moderate amount of mobility.
