||The head of the malleus (M) and the body of the incus (I) are located in the epitympanum. The long process of the incus (LI) is seen articulating with the head of the stapes (S). The stapes footplate (F) is visible in the oval window niche.
The long process (handle) of the malleus (LM) is attached to the tympanic membrane. A small part of the bony annulus (A) has been left to support the tympanic membrane.
