Infected Preauricular Sinus

Infected Preauricular Sinus

Description : Pain, tenderness and swelling in front of the anterior border of the helix suggests the presence of a pre-auricular abscess.

The commonest infecting organisms are the Gram-positive anaerobic cocci, e.g. Peptococcus, Peptostreptococcus and Bacteroides.

Once a pre-auricular sinus has become infected, there is a strong likelihood of recurrent infections.
